The Leonore Annenberg Teaching Fellowship at the Curry School of Education

The Leonore Annenberg Teaching Fellowship provides a $30,000 stipend for master’s-level teacher preparation at the University. Fellows then teach for three years with ongoing mentoring in schools that serve a significant number of high needs students. Designed as a Rhodes Scholarship for teaching, the Annenberg Fellowship seeks to raise teaching’s prestige and create a new gold standard for teacher preparation by choosing candidates of the highest caliber, character, and potential. It’s goals include preparing outstanding teacher candidates and placing these candidates in high needs schools and developing a core of teacher leaders. Eligibility Requirements In exchange, Fellows agree to teach for three years in high need secondary schools. Fellows will receive intensive mentoring and support during their first three years of teaching. They also become life-long members of a national network of Woodrow Wilson Fellows who are among America’s most distinguished thinkers, artists, scientists, and educational leaders. Complete the ONLINE INTENT FORM. 2. Complete the Curry School of Education Application. You will be applying as an on-grounds Post Graduate Master of Teaching degree. (As an LATF application, your application fee will be waived. ) 3. Submit official GRE and Praxis I (or equivalent) scores. GRE scores are required for graduate study at the University of Virginia and Praxis I is required for Virginia licensure. You may be eligible to substitute SAT or ACT scores for Praxis I. See the Curry application directions for more details. 4. In the personal essay section of the Curry Application Form, respond to the questions below. Answers to each question should be no more than 500 words.
5. Check list of items for submission. A review of applications will begin on January 15, 2009.
