The Center for Clinical Psychology Services welcomes UVa students and members of the Central Virginia community. We offer services to individuals, couples, and families for a wide range of issues, such as:

  • Managing anxiety
  • Coping with depression
  • Dealing with school issues (test anxiety, social adjustment in school, attentional or learning disabilities, etc.)
  • Family and child relationships
  • Effective parenting
  • Dealing with interpersonal and relationship problems

The Center for Clinical Psychology Services provides comprehensive psychological services including psychological assessment, intervention, and consultation. Psychological intervention is available for children, adolescents, adults, couples, families and groups.

  • Short- and long-term individual psychotherapy
  • Child therapy
  • Marital therapy
  • Parent intervention

A wide range of therapeutic modalities are available, including:

  • Cognitive-behavioral
  • Developmental
  • Psychodynamic
  • Systems
  • Behavior management

The Center offers comprehensive psychological and educational evaluations. Typical referrals include psychological diagnosis to help in treatment planning, as well as evaluation of cognitive, attentional, and behavioral disabilities. A typical assessment includes the following:

Individual testing and interviewing to determine:

  • Intellectual abilities
  • Educational achievement and learning style
  • Personality and emotional adjustment

Family interviewing focused on:

  • Childhood development
  • Family needs and concerns
  • Parenting concerns

Diagnostic decision-making:

  • Psychological diagnosis

  • Levels and patterns of functioning
