Graduate Programs in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine
The University of Virginia Kinesiology Program offers a masters (MEd) degree in athletic training and a PhD degree in sports medicine. The post-professional masters program is accredited by the NATA and admission is restricted to individuals who have completed a CAATE accredited entry-level athletic training program. The masters program is designed to prepare athletic trainers to be scholarly practitioners. The PhD program is research-intensive and designed to prepare clinicians with expertise in musculoskeletal medicine (athletic trainers, physical therapists, ...) for careers in academia or health sciences research.
