Educational Research: Overview
The Research, Statistics, and Evaluation program offers three areas of specialization: quantitative methods, qualitative research, and program evaluation. Quantitative courses range from elementary statistics to advanced multivariate techniques. Qualitative courses cover a breadth of paradigm approaches as well as specific techniques including field methods and computer assisted analysis. Evaluation courses cover introductory design and advanced topics. Advanced seminars in all three areas are also provided for intense exploration of specialized topics. All students are required to take foundational courses in each of the three areas. Beyond these foundational courses, students may choose to specialize in one or more areas. Students' research skills are further enhanced through projects directed by program faculty. State of the art facilities enhance the learning experience by providing students the opportunity to remain at the forefront of research computing and technology.

Program Description
The purpose of the program in Research, Statistics, and Evaluation is to prepare students to apply the quantitative rational approach in seeking solutions to educational problems by equipping them to:
- Understand the philosophical underpinnings of various approaches to scientific research;
- Identify and state educational questions in ways that facilitate answering them by quantitative methods;
- Create efficient designs for collecting data appropriate to the questions posed;
- Use powerful and appropriate procedures (quantitative and/or qualitative) for collecting and analyzing data;Bring existing knowledge to bear on such questions;
- Communicate the findings effectively.
